on the day of the massacre sarah palin inspired

i do not cry anymore about atrocities
only kindnesses garner my tears
i am numb to the predictability
of cruelty
disembodied heads talking out of their asses
...about ideas
they
never
even
originated
in their own heads
even one time

gleaning their "intelligence"
from soundbites
and inherited "patriotism"
words hurl fast--no time for
origin stories
or the careful tracking of where
these ideas
come from
or go to
over and over and over against the backdrop
of everyone's history
mystery
has no place
in the rush to judgment
and condemnation
of the "other"

rhetoric riles the reichs
calls the dogs
builds the walls
that always come tumbling down
after enough blood
has been extracted
from both sides
to pay hatred
to appear and disappear
when the whims of time
require
